Daylen Luchsinger was born in Victoria BC, and grew up in small coastal communities of coastal British Columbia. He started his printmaking at Malaspina College (now Vancouver Island University) in Nanaimo BC. Here Daylen was heavily influenced by his instructor, mentor and friend Gregory Ball.
Printmaking fascinated Daylen right away by the process, textures and mark making that the medium has to offer. From 2000 to 2003 Daylen lived overseas in Berlin Germany and Sligo Ireland, where he worked predominantly in drawing mediums.
In 2003 he returned to Vancouver Canada to attend the University of British Columbia to complete his B.F.A in the visual arts. At UBC Daylen continued his studies and studio work in printmaking under Marina Roy, Barbra Ziegler, and Gu Xiong. When he returned to Canada Daylen reestablished another passion of his, a connection to the natural landscape and the wilderness of BC. Since this time ideas of human interaction with nature and the environment have dominated Daylen’s work.
Presently Daylen teaches photography at Argyle Secondary in North Vancouver and maintains his artistic practice in printmaking and photography. He has been a member of Dundarave Printmakers since January 2008. If you have any questions or inquiries about the artist or his work please feel free to contact him via email at day.lux@gmail.com.
